Anti Aging Products

With the new anti aging products on the market, staying younger is a lot easier than ever. Today, when you're 40, it means something different than it did 20 years ago and the age of 60 is yesteryear's 40. Scientific discovery about aging helps people slow the process and in some cases even reverse it. Scientists now know what causes aging and know that it takes more than a face cream to keep you looking young, although that is part of it.

Diet plays an important role in aging, just as exercise and relaxation. The way you treat your body can make a difference in how you look, feel and interact with others.  Feeding your body the right nutrients can increase your chances of not only living longer but also living better in the years you gained. Using anti aging products isn't just about the quantity of life, it's also about the quality and enjoyment the extra years bring.

Anti aging drinks and foods are often high in antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals that kill cells. A free radical is an unstable atom. It has an odd number of electrons. Since electrons travel in pairs or make their element very reactive, another word for unstable, the atom interacts with the body's cells to steal away an electron. This is oxidation. Just as any chemical reaction, when the atom gains the electron, it no longer reacts but it changes the composition of the material that lost the atom.  When oxidation occurs within the body, the electron comes from the cell membrane.

The wall of the cells is highly susceptible to oxidation since it is made of unsaturated lipids. Normally the cell membrane is semi-permeable and allows nutrition to enter the cell and waste to escape. However, if it undergoes a change via oxidation, that cell coat hardens and food can no longer enter. Not only does this starve the cell, it also traps the waste inside the cell. It causes cellular damage and cell death. The oxidation can damage the DNA, the material for cell replication, impeding the ability of the cell to reproduce and rejuvenate the tissue where it is located.

Oxidation also can produce a chain reaction where it affects groups of cells. If oxidation damages enough cells, disease and aging takes place.  However, antioxidants stop the oxidative stress by giving up one of their electrons, protecting the cells and slowing or halting the aging process.

Free radicals can come from a number of places. Air pollution, smoke, improper diet and even ultraviolet rays from the sun create free radicals. Every day thousands of substances that can cause oxidative stress assault the body. Many foods and drinks contain antioxidants and some of the new anti aging foods and drinks are a special blend of the most potent antioxidants to help your body fight off the damage of free radicals and stop oxidative stress that causes aging.

Aging also comes from lack of nutrients. The human body undergoes thousands of processes to function at optimal level. If a person lacks certain nutrients, the body doesn't have the building blocks to operate and the person experiences disease. While some problems caused by malnutrition are obvious, sometimes they are not. It might create vision problems, dry skin and even poor memory. Anti aging food and drink also helps prevent problems caused by inadequate intake of nutrition.

Exercise is another boon to staying younger. In many cases, the person who exercises on a regular basis is often younger looking and acting than those that don't. You don't have to go to extremes to receive benefit from exercising. Simply devoting about an hour four times a week can help you to stay young. You should include aerobic exercise such as running, bicycling and swimming, strength exercise such as weight lifting and flexibility exercises such as yoga or dance.

While the anti aging food and drink and exercise can help you from the inside out, skin creams and lotions can give your exterior an additional lift. Many of the problems of aging skin come from lack of collagen, elastin and difficulty retaining moisture.

Collagen helps the skin remain firm and reduces the sagging that comes with aging. Elastin makes it "stretchier."  When you pinch the skin of a child, it immediately returns to its original position. If you do the same to a 90 year old, the skin remains scrunched for a length of time. Elastin helps your skin to fit "tighter." If the skin contains adequate moisture, it looks plumper and has fewer, if any, wrinkles. Today many new anti aging products on the market can improve your skin by helping the body to maintain moisture, and improve the collage and elastin content of the skin.

Using food, drink, supplements, exercise and lotions to fight aging can make you look younger. However, that is just a small benefit compared to the health benefits you reap from these types of products. Keeping your body healthy without medication and remaining vital is the biggest benefit from the use of anti aging products.
